Richard Reid & Associates Ltd is pleased with the Government’s decision to underground Buckle Street in front of the National War Memorial in Wellington. The trenching of this road to pass under Tory Street is a key part of our alternative design for NZTA’s ‘Cobham Drive to Buckle Street’ transport improvement project.

Richard Reid recommended this specific approach to Buckle Street to the Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage in May. We conclude that the Government has based its decision on our plan as both NZTA and the Architecture Centre’s proposals for Buckle Street differed significantly from this outcome.

If the Government was to extend its support of our work to include our plan for the Basin Reserve Roundabout, it would save the $100 million cost of a flyover.
