Richard Reid’s assessment of a proposed retirement village is the cover story in today’s Devonport Flagstaff. Ryman Healthcare has sought resource consent approval for a non-complying proposal of four-to-six storey apartment blocks tightly packed on a prominent site overlooking Ngataringa Bay on the North Shore of Auckland.

Richard was commissioned by Ngataringa Bay Action Group to provide an assessment of the proposal for an independent hearing this week. Richard’s evidence concluded that the proposal’s bulk, scale and nearly 330m uninterrupted length will create a wall of buildings with adverse visual and dominance effects.

The design of the proposal – not a retirement village - is strongly opposed by the local community.
