Auckland planning and design professionals today witnessed a master class in citymaking and public speaking from the eminent Vancouver city councillor, transport advisor and urban blogger, Gordon Price. In his inspirational talk “Lessons from Vancouver: Beyond Motordom” Gordon outlined the strategies the city has adopted to avoid car dependence and encourage urban intensification.

At the lecture’s end Gordon challenged the audience to propose the best use of his carbon offset payment “to promote an incremental change that could make a difference, some small gesture of sustainability”.

Our practice successfully pitched for the modest expenditure to advance our alternative to NZTA’s flyover proposal in Wellington. Gordon’s support was covered by Lindsay Shelton in the independent news resource Scoop which finally introduced our practice and alternative design to a Wellington audience.
